Slava Sundays @ Waldorf Astoria - Amsterdam
After a successful launch event in The Hague, the Slava Sundays series of benefit concerts for Ukraine sets foot in Amsterdam, at the prestigious Waldorf Astoria venue, on December 18th.
For this second edition, we are very pleased to announce that the great Borys Fedorov, together with Nicholas Santangelo Schwartz and the young prodigy Yuliana Beziazychchna, will be performing again.
To complete this rich program, we have the privilege to receive the worldwide famous cellist Stefan Metz, joined on stage by the Aristos Quartet, his former students.
BORYS FEDOROV (UA) - piano
For more than three decades now, Borys has been a professor of piano at Kyiv’s State Conservatory and the Lysenko Kyiv Specialised Musical College For Exceptional Young Talents. He has lately also taken on the role of mentor at the Davidsbündler Music Academy.
Borys is a concert pianist of rare creative talents and whose vast repertoire embodies the works of composers from many different styles and periods. Winner of multiple international piano competitions, Borys lately discovered a hidden talent and passion in composition. His works have since been received with great enthusiasm by many top musicians and other composers alike.
In 2020, Borys received the title of Honorary Artist of Ukraine, awarded by the president of the country for numerous artistic achievements and valuable input into the cultural life of Ukraine.
NICHOLAS SANTANGELO SCHWARTZ (US) - cello/double bass
“He displays an unusually beautiful musical temperament. His music-making is intelligent and pragmatic, yet colourful and poetic".
First prize winner of the International Society of Bassists and Stulburg International Competitions, and regular guest at numerous international chamber music festivals, Nicholas is a double bassist in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra since 2013. He is unique as a double bassist as he also plays and performs as a cellist.
STEFAN METZ (NL) and the ARISTOS QUARTET (NL)
Escaping the communist Romania in the 1960's, Stefan Metz found a new home in the Netherlands, becoming Officer of the Order of the Oranje Nassau. He soon founded the worldwide renowned Orlando Quartet, performing all over the globe.
Stefan Metz is also the founder of the reference chamber music festival, Orlando Festival, hosting some of the best musicians on the circuit for many years and the Netherlands String Quartet Academy (NSKA), with whom he has been guiding young talented quartets towards a flourishing future in the international performing arts since 2002.
The Aristos Quartet is an international string quartet based in The Hague. Founded in 2008, its members come from the Netherlands, France and Taiwan, some of which have graduated from the Master String Quartet at the Conservatory of Amsterdam or the Dutch String Quartet Academy (NSKA), where they have been coached by many renowed teachers such as Stefan Metz, Marc Danel, Dmitry Ferschtman, Eberhard Feltz, Luc-Marie Aguera, Peter Cropper and Johannes Meissl.
Since then the Aristos Quartet has performed in concerts and festivals all over Europe and collaborated on unique pieces by composer Carlos Michans ('Lacrimae') or Pavel Fischer from the Skampa Quartet in Prague ("Morava").
